포크 음악의 특히나 60년대 미국 포크음악들 중에는 정치적인 색채를 띠는 음악들이 많았습니다. 그 중에서도 가장 정치적인 성향이 짙으며 그 성향이 바뀌지 않은 가수를 꼽으라고 했을때 첫 손가락으로 꼽히는 사람이 Phil Ochs입니다. 그의 작품들중에 널리 알려진 작품들로는 I aint's marching anymore나 The war is over같은 곡이 있습니다. 그는 1968년 선거에서 닉슨이 승리한 것에 대해서 엄청나게 실망을 했고, 그에게는 큰 상처를 남긴것으로 알려져 있습니다. 이 후 1972년에도 반전을 내세운 조지 맥거번의 대통령 선건 캠페인등에서 활동했지만, 역시 닉슨이 승리를 했습니다. 이 후 그가 닉슨을 조롱하듯이 만든 곡이 이 곡입니다. 뭐 가사에 보면 '닉슨은 자기한테 맞는 나라로 가라'라는 식의 가사가 나옵니다. 이 녹음은 1974년 녹음된 것으로 정신적으로 피폐해 있던 그는 2년후에 자살로 삶을 마갑합니다.

가사 아래쪽에 보면 And criminals are posing as advisors to the crown라는 가사가 나오는데, Phil Ochs가 당시 부통령이었던 Spiro Agnew가 닉슨을 조종하고 있다고 생각해서 쓴 부분이라고 알려져 있습니다. 유머게시판에 미국역사에 대한 사진들중 이번에 워터게이트에 대한 사진들이 올라있는데, 보면 닉슨이 사임하고나서 부통령이었던 제랄드 포드가 대통령이 되었다고 되어 있습니다. 이게 이렇게 된건 닉슨과 아그뉴의 사이가 나빠서 결국 아그뉴가 부통령을 사임했기 때문에 생긴 일이었습니다. 원래 닉슨과 아그뉴는 68년 대선에도 같이 나와서 린든 존슨을 물리치고 당선 되었고 72년 대선에도 같이 나와서 맥거번을 이기고 당선이 되었는데, 이 과정에서 사이가 아주 안 좋아졌습니다. 결국 아그뉴가 부통령에서 사임을 하게되자, 당시 하원의장이었던 제랄드 포드가 부통령을 승계하게 된 것입니다. 그리고 닉슨이 대통령 자리를 사임하면서 포드가 다시 대통령자리로 올라갔습니다. 미국에서 대통령 선거를 거치지 않고 대통령이 된 유일한 사례가 바로 제랄드 포드인데, 대통령과 부통령이 모두 사임하는 바람에 하원의장에서 올라간 케이스가 됩니다.
