지난 10월21에 우연히 라디오를 들었는데, 방송에서 레너드 코헨 목소리가 나와서 의외였어요.

어릴때 노래로 듣던 분이 라디오에서 이야기를 하고 있으니 감회가 새롭더라구요.

9월에 새로 음반을 내어서 방송에서 소개해주는 시간이었던 것 같았어요.

레너드 코헨이 실제로  5년 동안 캘리포니아의 Zen Monastery 명상센터
캘리포니아에 있는 절에서 명상을 했었다고 하여서 뒷이야기를 듣는 것 같아서
재밌게 들었는 기억이 있어요. 그런데 한 달도 안되어서 지금 이렇게 돌아가시다니...
참 허무하네요.

승려로도 활동하기도 했다고
아마도 그래서 9월에 낸 앨범이 인생, 신, 사랑이나 그런 토픽이 많은 것 같아요.

2016년 9월, 82세에 낸 그의 음반이나 라디오 방송에서 그의 음색이 82세라는 걸 믿을 수 없었어요.
제가 라디오 들을 때도 첫 부분을 못 들어서 이렇게나 나이가 들으셨는 줄 몰랐거든요.
타이틀곡이 상당히 우울한 음악이어서 홍차넷에 올릴까하다가 관두었거든요.

오늘 다시 위키도 보고 찾아보니 왜 마지막에 내신 음반이 우울했는지가 이해가되기도 했어요.
그의 인생을 보니 2005년 이후로 가장 친했던 친구이자 매니저 Kelley Lynch가 돈을 가로채고 배신을 해서 소송하고 난리도 아니었네요.
아마도 그래서 음악이 더 우울했는건지도 모르겠어요. 음악들이 모두 시처럼 쓰여있네요.

아마 그와 그의 매니저 사이의 싸움을 이야기하는 듯한....신에게 호소하는 듯 슬픈 절망이 가득한 노래네요.
묘하게 저한테는 Treaty 라는 노래가 끌리네요.
