이차대전때 영국의 윈스턴 처칠이 행한 유명한 연설로 꼽히는것 중에 하나가 We shall fight on the beaches 혹은 Never Surrender라는 제목이 붙어있는 1940년 6월 4일 처칠이 영국 의회에서 행한 연설입니다. 유럽에서 전쟁이 발생한지 8개월 후인 1940년 5월 의회를 차지한 그가 6월에 행한 이 연설은 보수당과 노동당 양당 모두에 깊은 인상을 남겨준 연설이 됩니다. 이 연셜의 타이틀로 붙여진 부분을 보면 아래와 같습다.

We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender,

국내에서는 Logical Song이라는 곡이 제일 많이 알려진 Supertramps의 1976년 발매음반인 Even in the Quietist Moment에 등장하는 첫 곡인 Fool's Overture는 처칠의 We shall fight on the beaches를 읽는 부분을 곡에 포함을 시켰습니다. 그 외 곡을 듣다보면 William Blake의 Jerusalem을 읽는 부분도 나옵니다.
